Open Data Management System - Plastic Waste Innovation
The Plastic Waste Innovation Project introduces an Open Data Management System (ODMS) in Fuvahmulah City to provide accessible waste management data that empowers institutions, communities, and policymakers to drive sustainable, plastic-free solutions.
The Plastic Waste Innovation Project, led by No Plastic Maldives and supported by the GEF Small Grants Programme (SGP) with UNDP, introduces an Open Data Management System (ODMS) in Fuvahmulah City.
This pioneering platform will collect, store, and deliver readily available data on waste consumption, collection, and recycling. By providing easy access to waste-related data for organizations like WAMCO, the City Council, schools, and the public, the ODMS helps make informed decisions, encourages community involvement, and aids national conservation efforts.
The initiative addresses a critical gap in waste management, aligning with Fuvahmulah’s strategic development plan and the Maldives’ vision of a plastic-free future. It represents a significant step toward sustainable urban solutions, environmental stewardship, and long-term protection of the island’s unique ecosystems.
