Today, we're thrilled to announce the launch of the Clean Shores Initiative—a groundbreaking partnership between No Plastic Maldives and Lorenz that represents everything we've been dreaming about: sustained commitment, authentic partnerships, and real, measurable impact on our beautiful coastlines.
Why This Initiative is Different
Let's be honest – we've all seen the one-off cleanup events. A company shows up, everyone poses for photos, and then... what? The beach gets dirty again, and we're back to square one.
The Clean Shores Initiative is different. This isn't about checking a box or getting good PR. This is about building something that lasts. Something that matters. Something that will still be making a difference years from now.
The Three Pillars of Clean Shores
1. Authentic Action
This initiative is community-led, with No Plastic Maldives at the helm. We're not just slapping a logo on someone else's event – we're designing, organizing, and executing this based on our years of experience and deep understanding of what our coastlines need.
2. Sustained Engagement
Mark your calendars for more than just December 27! This is the first of quarterly cleanups planned throughout 2026. We're building momentum, creating habits, and showing up consistently – because that's how real change happens.
3. Tangible Support
Lorenz isn't just sponsoring an event – they're investing in permanent infrastructure. Beautiful, functional eco-stations made from upcycled materials will remain at the beach site, serving the community long after our cleanup ends. That's the kind of commitment we've been waiting for.
Join Us on December 27!
Our inaugural Clean Shores event is happening on Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 7:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Hulhumalé Phase 1 and 2— Channel Area. And we want YOU there!
What to Expect:
✓ A professionally organized event with trained team leaders guiding each cleanup zone
✓ All safety equipment is provided: gloves, bags, and branded headbands.
✓ Complimentary refreshments courtesy of Lorenz (because cleanup is hard work!)
✓ Proper waste segregation with MOPA handling PET bottle recycling
✓ Amazing photo opportunities and social media moments (#CleanShoresMV)
✓ The satisfaction of being part of something truly meaningful
Our goal? Remove over 1,000 kilograms of waste from our coastline with the help of 100+ incredible volunteers. That's not just a number—that's 1,000 kg of plastic that won't end up in our ocean, in marine life, or washed back onto our beaches.
An Incredible Team
We're so grateful to have assembled an all-star team of partners who believe in this vision:
• Lorenz/Euro Marketing – Our primary partner and the driving force behind the permanent infrastructure
• Housing Development Corporation (HDC) – Supporting us with site access and coordination
• Maldives Ocean Plastics Alliance (MOPA) – Handling PET bottle recycling and technical guidance
• Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) – Managing proper waste disposal
• Malé City Council – Helping us reach and mobilize community members
• And NGOs, and community organizations joining the cause
Beyond December 27
This is just the beginning. The Clean Shores Initiative will expand to other atolls throughout 2026, bringing our model of authentic, sustained environmental action to communities across the Maldives. We're documenting everything we learn so we can share best practices and help others replicate our success.
Every piece of waste will be carefully documented and categorized. This isn't just about cleaning – it's about building the evidence base we need to advocate for better policies, improved infrastructure, and systemic change.
